3D Mammography

Meridian Imaging, is the first facility in Jackson, New Jersey to provide 3D Mammography. 3D mammography, also called breast tomosynthesis, is a revolutionary new imaging technology which provides better tissue visualization, improved breast tissue detail and proven reduction of “call-backs” by 20-40 percent.

During a 3D mammogram multiple breast images are taken from different angles producing a series of one-millimeter thick slices that create a 3D image of the breast. This provides greater visibility for the radiologist to see breast detail, increasing the likelihood of spotting abnormalities and a greater confidence to rule out benign tumors as cancerous.

In addition, 3D mammography finds cancers earlier than 2D mammography alone, with a 27 percent increase in cancer detection and a 40 percent increase in invasive cancer detection. The very low X-ray energy used for 3D mammography is below the FDA guidelines.

The Meridian Imaging team provides screening and diagnostic mammograms using state-of-the-art digital mammography technology. This all-digital approach enables our radiologists with specialized expertise in breast imaging to more clearly see abnormalities in the breast than with conventional film-based mammography. Using digital technology, our physicians are able to obtain images of the breast that are of higher contrast and show finer detail to allow for more thorough evaluations.

Currently, tomosynthesis is used in addition to your routine screening mammogram.
